The Love Story
of Jack and Jeannine Dodd
We had a
great time making this portion of my dad's biography
video. My mom had died in 1987 and when I first watched
this portion of the movie it was so moving to me, like having
my mom back again for just a short
while.
My parents
really loved each other and they both had a great sense of
humor. My dad's story on this video is kind of
funny, because he remembered it a lot differently than my mom.
The way my mom told the story, she had to ask my dad to marry
him because, at 35, he was a confirmed bachelor and was not
willing to commit. But forced into a corner he realized
he would lose my mom so he asked her. Now when you watch
this video you can see how different their stories
were.
My dad
never regretted marrying my mom, even though 10 years after
they were married she came down with a disease and ended up
spending the rest her life in a wheel chair. He nursed
her till her death Instead of sadness and being put out by the
situation, they expressed joy, always finding the silver lining
in the midst of sadness. It was that bright spirit they
have passed on to both my sister and
I.
This video
was in the early days before the illness. This is the way
I will keep them both in my memory. Having this biography
was a gift we gave to my dad, which now is a gift to us that we
can keep forever. It is truly
priceless.
